Ed Hughes Memorial Arena
The Ed Hughes Memorial Arena is the City of Ione's Multi-Purpose, covered arena. It is available for all outdoor activities year round, rain or shine. Additional information and reservations for the arena can be made by calling the City of Ione 209-274-2412, ext. 100.
In addition to the overall size of the structure, included are protective railings surrounding the entire interior as well as grandstands, an announcer's booth and ticket counter and treated sand and clay mixture for traction and footing. 800 amp lighting both inside and out along with solar panels for visibility illuminates the entire building and surrounding area. Holding and warming up areas are being constructed and easy access to and from the building make it an ideal location in beautiful Howard Park for all your outdoor arena activities.

Fees schedule for activities up to 500 people
Compensation: Contractor shall pay to the City of Ione:

$250.00 per day for under 40 people; over 40 people, $7.00 per horse with $600.00 cap.

$20.00 per hour for lights or $120 per day, whichever is less if applicable.

$100.00 grooming fee

$150.00 cleaning deposit to be returned if grounds are left in satisfactory condition, ie stalls cleaned, garbage cans dumped and grounds free of garbage and debris, including any piles of shavings/manure cleaned out of trailers. Grounds left in unstasfactory condition will result in a mandatory $150.00 cleaning fee to be imposed per show for the reminder of the contract.

$15.00 per stall per use, fourteen day nocie for set-up.

The flag is honored at the ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Ione Equestrian/Multi-Purpose Arena. In the saddle is "Shoddy Dazell" of Ione leading members of the Equestrian community around the 200 x 250 ft. covered arena. Events by the Gymkhana Association were on hand to demonstrate the uses and activities that an arena of this size and capacity was suited for. |

Many Equestrian Clubs are already enjoying the facilities available at Howard Park; Gymkhana Events are often held at the Park on weekends, with riders of all ages racing against the clock in barrel races and other exciting competitions.
Typical of the crowds that gather at the arena, the interest in a myriad of events and activities is prevalent throughout Amador County and in the City of Ione. Country and city-folk alike enjoy the amenities offered at the new Equestrian/Muli- Purpose Arena which can include rodeo events, Gymkhana, Team-Penning, team roping, equestrian speed events such as barrel racing are also popular. Music venues, animal shows, circus performances, hot-rod and car shows, are also on the horizon. The covered arena allows for year-round enjoyment for the young and old alike. |
